I like to read travel publications. I recently signed up for a digital membership to Wanderlust, so my online ads are currently featuring other travel pubs and opportunities.

I saw an ad from Travel + Leisure a couple of days ago about an online event for viewing six private residences designed by the revolutionary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867–1959). Marketers are good at targeting because it caught my attention!

This weekend, May 14 through 16, 2021, the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy is offering a special opportunity to view six private houses designed by the late architect.

I went to the Conservancy’s website to check out Wright’s homes, and I was shocked at how many he designed! I visited Fallingwater many years ago, and it has always remained in the back of my mind. I am interested in Earth-friendly design, and Wright was before his time concerning incorporating structures into the natural environment. In fact, I would say that he was following permaculture principles, though I don’t know how professional permaculture practitioners would feel about this observation.

The event, Way Out and About Wright 2021, is not free. The fee is $130 to participate and includes a 1-year membership to the organization. However, there is also a $30 offer for students. The schedule includes viewing two homes per day via Zoom. I did not see information about recordings if you are unable to attend the live events as scheduled.

To be clear, I am not being paid to promote anything. I thought of this post as a public service announcement. I figured that I am probably in the minority of people targeted for an internet ad about this event, so I am writing to let you all know in case you are interested!

I was curious about whether or not anyone on Medium had ever written about Wright. I always hear that this platform is more targeted to technical and business-related articles, but I don’t think that’s true anymore.

I did find some stories about Wright, and I have highlighted a few articles that I found interesting:

I loved the lead quote from Pedro A. Wunderlich’s article below:

“No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other.” — Frank Lloyd Wright

Thanks for reading!

If you decide to attend the event, please leave a comment and let us know what you thought!
